Machine Embroidery Techniques

This a monthly class on different techniques for your embroidery machine owners.  The brand of your machine does not matter but must be an embroidery machine.  Bring your machine to this class along with basic sewing supplies. August's project will be Zipper Bags made in the hoop.

Kits will be provided as well as lunch. The Always Handy Tote bag folds into its own pocket and is great for shopping. Batik fabrics will be supplied for the tote. The Pocket Scribbler is a fun note pad & pen holder you can decorate any way you like. It is a great scrap project. The Humbug Bag is a cute zipper bag with many many uses including an attractive gift package. All materials will be supplied. The perfect follow-up to our beginner course or for anyone who wants to "go to the next level". 12 block sampler quilt.  Pattern designed by Barb Sackel.  This is a four hour course that meets seven times.  You will be introduced to the following methods:  Class 1: review course on squaring up.  2. putting blocks together that are nontraditional.  3. learning square in the corner technique.  4. partial seam assembly.  5. learning to measure, cut, and sew templates.

Beginning Paper Piecing

Learn the technique that is showing up in more patterns every day!  It is easy to learn on these 12” star blocks using large pieces of fabric.  Put your blocks together later to make any size wall hanging or quilt or a pillow or tote.  Bring at least 5 coordinating fat quarters in light, medium, dark. Learn to do free motion machine quilting for any purpose – filler patterns or feather wreaths!  We’ll begin with meander quilting and other free form filler patterns for which you do not need to mark your quilt.  Then we’ll progress to more difficult patterns for which you’ll follow a line.  We’ll also practice two methods for quilting designs like feather wreaths, one marked and one not.  This is a method class – no project will be completed.  Some machine quilting experience is helpful, but not necessary.  You need to be on good terms with your sewing machine! Rag Weaving
Taught by the staff of Primitive Stuff

Grab up all those "noodle" strips of fabric you just couldn't throw out and join Candy and Katie as they help you learn this age old craft of rag weaving. You may rent a trivet sized loom during class or order any of the several loom sizes for purchase that day. Click to see a larger image.

Use our classroom for FREE! Enjoy the comfort of large tables, cutting & ironing counters, fridge, microwave and sink.
Groups may call to reserve a day.

Call any time to check classroom availability - it is available any time a class is not in session.  The following times are always open sewing:

Every Friday - call for times
Plus every Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

 

General Class Information

  • Supplies are NOT included unless noted.
  • Advance registration is required for all classes & clubs.
  • Payment is required at time of registration.
  • Phone registrations accepted by credit card only.
  • Payments by mail payable to “Betty’s Quilting Etc.” will be logged as signed up when received.
  • Supply list will be given or mailed at time of paid registration.
  • Basic sewing supplies are required for all machine sewing classes.
  • We do have machines you can use for a class - reserve ahead of time.
  • Refunds will only be given if class is cancelled by the teacher, if student cancels 3 or more days before class, if the class is full and we can fill your spot from a waiting list, or at the teacher’s discretion.
  • Cancellations due to lack of enrollment will be made 2 days before class.
  • Children under 14 are not allowed in any classes except children’s classes. Children 14-18 must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult taking the class.
